Our values
Settl is built for students navigating an unfamiliar system — often alone, often anxious. The community should reflect that. We expect everyone to contribute in a way that makes the experience better for the next person reading.
What we encourage
- Sharing your own first-hand experience (what worked, what didn't)
- Asking specific questions — the more detail, the better the answers
- Welcoming students from all countries, visa types, and backgrounds
- Correcting misinformation kindly, with a source where possible
- Tagging posts correctly (Visa & Legal, Housing, Banking, Transport, General)
What is not allowed
- Definitive immigration or legal advice. You can share your experience, but never tell someone what they must or will receive from the Home Office, courts, or landlords. Always recommend official sources.
- Spam or unsolicited promotion. No advertising services, agents, apps, or referral codes unless explicitly invited to do so.
- Harassment or discrimination. No abusive language, threats, or content that demeans people based on nationality, race, religion, gender, or visa status.
- Sharing others' personal data. Do not post screenshots, personal details, or contact information belonging to other users or third parties.
- Misinformation. If you are not certain, say so. Presenting speculation as fact in an immigration or legal context causes real harm.
- Off-topic or duplicate content. Use the correct category and search before posting to avoid clutter.
Reporting a problem
Use the report button on any post or reply within the app. Alternatively, email us at community@joinsettl.com with a description of the issue. We review all reports.
Enforcement
Depending on the severity and frequency of a violation, we may remove content, issue a warning, temporarily restrict posting, or permanently suspend an account. We aim to be fair and consistent. If you believe an action was taken in error, contact us at community@joinsettl.com.
A note on advice
Settl and its community are not a substitute for professional legal or immigration advice. Information shared by other students reflects their personal experience and may not apply to your situation. Always verify critical requirements via official government, UKVI, and university sources.
